3. Hourglass
Hourglass body type is considered as the Ideal body shape in women, as it is completely proportional. The upper and lower half of your body has the same width. And you have beautiful and well-defined waistline.
This has been called the perfect feminine body shape for centuries.

The best thing about this body type is that everything graces the body. These people have the luxury to wear well-fitted clothes and get people envious. Be it a casual day out, an evening with friends or a late night party, dressing up looks just effortless here.
You know your well-defined waist will always do the trick..!

Look for you – This is said to be the ideal body type. So, basically anything and everything will compliment your body. Grace yourself with nice body hugging dresses, high waisted pants, V-Neck, tight tops and skirts. A belt will enhance your amazing waistline. A-line skirts will conceal round bottom and fuller hips. Baggy pants will make you look rounder. So, opt for tight pants instead. Fitted blouses and shirts with open necklines look fabulous on you. The idea is to choose simplistic dressing in casual and equally gorgeous while having a gala time at a club!





4. Pear
Women with this body type are smaller on the upper half i.e. shoulders and the bust area while the lower half; buttocks, thighs and calves comparatively hold little more fat.

Anything that draws attention to the upper half of your body would do the magic. Sticking to smaller patterns will also be advisable, as bigger pattern would make your body parts look bigger.

Look for you – Wear boat neck to show shoulders. Tube dresses will be the best pick. Tight high waisted pants can never go wrong on you since you have got a nice butt. And Maxis are something which will compliment your figure without fail.




5. Strawberry
Women with strawberry body type have broad shoulders, big bust and narrow hips. Creating a balance between your top and bottom half is the key to dressing a strawberry shaped body.

White is one colour that really balances out strawberry shaped bodies. Its better to keep your top dark coloured and wear bright coloured bottoms to draw attention away from your upper half. 

Look for you – Anything with flare; pants, skirts and even jackets will compliment Strawberry shapes. You can also try V-neck top but not too deep or a dress that is tighter around the waist. Avoid flowing tops.

'No more shopping for someone else!' -I

Hey fellas, I am here as promised, with all the different kind of body types. Now some of you might think, ‘How does it even matter? My body shape keeps changing!” Trust me I was once in your shoes. Your body shape never changes. It’s just the shift of little bit of fat here and there.

I would also never understand how a particular piece of cloth would fit me so well, and another one will just look equally horrible. Then, one day while trying to figure out the best fit for me, the store girl asked, ‘Mam, what’s your body type?’

It took my mind less than no time in coming up with the answer to, ‘why would this dress fit me, and why that dress wouldn’t!’ It has everything to do with my body-type, which I wasn’t really aware of. So, that lass saved me from spending another pocket full of cash that too on clothes made for a totally different body-type. Isn’t it literally like shopping for someone else? Ehh!! I spent a lifetime doing it!
                          So is the reason I thought I should share this since I myself own a clothing store now. Infact it was a brush up on my knowledge in a way. Take a look and I bet next time you will not have a single dress, which doesn’t fit you.


1. Apple
The women with the apple shaped body normally have slim legs but great ones, slim thighs and hips, where as bust and abdomen go little out of proportion as compared to the rest of the body.

You have to shift people’s attention from the roundness of your torso, so wear deep V-neck and blouses with asymmetrical bottoms. And because you don't have a well defined waist line, wear small belts on dresses for an illusion but do not even look at the bigger ones as it will make you look more bulky in your mid portion. You shouldn’t wear low waist pants or shorts as well. 

Look for you – Barbie doll dress that is tight only on the bust. For you, choosing right bottom is very important. Empire waist tops will work to take attention off your tummy. Denim skirt or A-line skirts or trousers will do the trick. Team these up with wedges.




2. Banana
Also called a ruler or rectangular. Such women are lean and their shoulder, waistline and hip area measures almost the same. You can be on the slimmer side, or even little heavier, the body frame always forms a rectangle. 
                                      Has any boy ever put his arm around your neck and behaved as if your are one another boy? Well, wait for some more such moments, naughty tomboyish!

                                     And if you want to shrug these boys off, then wear clothes that give an illusion of a more feminine body. The idea is to create a waist for you. 


Look for you – Wear tops and blouses that have a high neckline or the ones that cut off around your waistline, basically tops which create curve to your upper half. Tapered shirts also work well. Avoid tight fitted clothes instead wear semi-fitted clothes but do not go baggy. 
                            As for the bottoms, choose skirts which add flare to the bottom half since they create an illusion of having more curves down below. These few things will trick the eyes into making your wait look smaller. 
                                        You have a gift of flat stomach, so you might as well shouldn’t leave an opportunity to show it off. Spaghetti with loose pants will add that oomph factor to your personality.

They say that a woman’s body is the most beautiful creation by God. Well, couldn’t agree more! And icing on the cake would be to believe in this well stated fact that ‘you’ are beautiful. Coming across all kinds of women, with all kinds of body types and mind-sets comes handy with my work. And one of the perks of being a clothes connoisseur is to not only pretty yourself up like a doll but also help others look nothing less than amazing! 

I always had a flair for clothing and I feel disheartened when I come across a wardrobe malfunction. And it only increases with the number of ‘body types’. So, I thought why not help some of you who are looking for that little push to get the right fit and dress up like a damsel! After all, we can’t afford even a little slip of a dress over the shoulder in the middle of an amazing date, can we?

I recently got to interact with one of our customers who looked quite confused while flipping through the dresses in my store. She would put her hand on one, think for about ten minutes looking at every detail of the dress with eyes as curious as if discovering a new island in the neighbourhood and then switch to another one and the same process will be repeated till eternity! I couldn’t contain myself and looked through her curious eyes when she finally tried to approach me. 

‘I am confused, can you help me with the selection’, she said almost hopelessly.
‘Sure! your body type is....aa’, before I could have dived into my knowledge of clothes complementing her body type, she took me aback by surprise.

‘Body type! does it even matter?’

Well she should ask those who long for one like hers. And I finally knew the reason for her confusion. She wasn’t aware of her body type and so didn’t know the right kind of clothes to chose from. She really became my motivation to write this blog about different kind of body types and the kind of clothes that go with each. 

First of all, I want all you lovelies to believe that you all are pretty in your own ways. The key to own an amazing personality is to first accept your body the way it is and not try to alter it, apart from, of course little bit of fat here and there. All those amazing gowns and peplums and silhouette will no more be a nightmare once you know what suits you the best. 

Here is the classification of the five different kinds of body types. To give you a good reference, I have inserted celebrities as examples so that you get a fair idea. 

  1. Pear shaped - Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez 
  2. Hour glass - Jessica Simpsons, Kate Winslet 
  3. Apple - Angelina Jolie
  4. Banana/Ruler/Rectangular - Cameron Diaz
  5. Strawberry - Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan

Well, excuses never burnt calories ;)


Winters are just about to say Hello and how can they just pass by without having to see you in your sexy maxi dress gracing one such chilly evening! I was actually thinking about it the other day, when a cold breeze happened to brush my skin. I suddenly realised the weather was changing.

And the first thing that came to my mind was my favorite blue maxi dress I got from Forever New. It not only looked elegant, but also fulfilled the purpose of dealing with the chilly gust of air, something that the evenings now a days are really compatible with.

Who doesn’t want to look like a damsel? Of course we all do! But how many times do we end up loosing the motivated-self in that process and how many times do we actually get there. But you know what, it is that easy!

No, you don’t have to run for miles, but indulge yourself in some exercises after which you can answer questions like ‘have you been running a marathon’ better than a marathon runner.  Because these exercises will make you don that athletic body which till date has existed only in your dreams.

Trust me even I was accustomed to such thoughts a few years ago. But soon I realised it just takes an hour of your day and only 3-5 days a week. As a tyro, you can start with 3 days a week, then automatically your strength will increase. I remember I was first introduced to fitness through Yoga. I made it a part of my routine for almost two years. I would do Suryanamaskar, which is, saluting the sun through a particular sequence of Asanas. I would do it 108 times everyday and how could have I failed to see the results? It showed in every single strand of my hair and my body language just changed for good.

I became more fit, active and high on energy, which anyway I generally am ;) But trust me it does wonders to not only your body but to your mind as well. After two years of strenuous Yoga, I shifted to another kind of workout, which most of us call Gyming. And I must confess I quite like it.

You need not have to be a gold medalist in running or swimming or weight lifting, you can actually do with a bronze. Like I said, it just takes an hour of your day. To achieve that hourglass figure I have been doing cardio and few more exercises, which I thought would be a good idea to share with you all.

So, I start with ten minutes of treadmill followed by squats, crunches, weight lifting and elliptical cycle.

And if you can’t wait to get those flat abs, then crunches are the way to go. Basically the idea is to increase the muscle in your body and work towards gaining more strength. Within four weeks, you will see that your abs are appearing, the love handles have lost their existence, arms have achieved their target and legs have gone the lean and muscular way. Wasn’t that simple?
Just remember to keep hydrating yourself every now and then because while exercising the water in your body drains out and you need to refill the need. I am definitely waiting to see you in your favorite maxi dress. And if you don’t have one, then you know where to get an amazing piece; as always Forever New.
